"Strange Sex: A Strange Anthology"

A cover I illustrated for a book of short prose stories for an independent publishing company called StrangeHouse books. You can find their Facebook page HERE! This book will be coming out within a few months and you'll be able to order from them online, that is if you like strange stories about strange sex. This illustration was traditional penciled and inked on 11x17 bristol board and colored in Adobe Photoshop.

Zenescope Entertainment Presents Spike TV's "1000 Ways to Die" Graphic Novel

These pages were a part of a collection of short stories based on the t.v. show "1000 Ways to Die". The title for the story I worked on was called "Pumpkin Die" and features rednecks and a pumpkin cannon. This is the first foray into the graphic novel medium for this t.v. show's concept. I drew these pages entirely in Adobe Photoshop, before I found Manga Studio, but both software programs are amazing for drawing on the computer. I drew these pages entirely on the computer, using Manga Studio EX 4, which is an amazing program. I was one of two artists who drew the issue, which you should be able to purchase at your local comic shop!

Here's a movie poster I did for an independent film called Night of the Tentacles. You can find the facebook page here!

This is my grindhouse version of the poster. I've always wanted to see if I could do something in this style because I do love good bad movies of that era.

This is the normal version of the poster. This was drawn digitally in Manga Studio EX 4 and then colored in Adobe Photoshop.

Here's my initial gray tone rough that I based the final image on. I do this to help me envision my light sources and composition of the piece.

Galerians T-Shirt Design Contest Entry

Here's my entry to a t-shirt design contest based on a PS1 video game called Galerians.

It was part of a internet video show called Super Replay, run by GameInformer, wherein they finish a game to completion while recording themselves talk about the game. This particular game was about 9 hours long. I enjoy watching their videos and I decided to enter their t-shirt design contest, which they have after beating the game. Zenescope Entertainment's Grimm Fairy Tales: Dream Eater Saga #08 Sinbad One-Shot

Here are the first dozen of the pencils I did for the comic book. Other talented people did the script and coloring of the finished book. I've never drawn any arabian-themed subjects before, so this book was fun to research for.

This comic was part 8 of Zenescope Entertainment's Dream Eater Saga, which was a company wide cross-over of their various universes and characters.

MOLD! movie poster 02

Here's another installment of my painting process of the MOLD! movie poster for the film that my buddy created. Look to my post earlier in this month to see the initial production of this painting.

This is the stage I start laying down all the shadows. I like to work from dark to light, so everything should look muddy and gray at this stage.

At this stage, I start to lay down the base colors of the various subjects across the painting.

I'm finally getting to the fun part of painting, where I do the rendering and modeling, building up the form of the subjects. In this case, I started on the three masked military dudes because they're the smallest subjects of the overall painting.

Here's a recolored version of a prior drawing I posted. After learning more about computer coloring, I was able to add some extra effects and overall coolness to the drawing.

Here's the character Strong-Arms in all his villainous glory. I like the lighting effects I was able to use on this drawing.

Here's another of the Chip's villains named Virus. She has a history with Stanley and will be featured in future stories of the Chip.

This last image is a portrait of a young Stanley Ross and his family before he's destined to become the technological superhero of the 21st century. His uncle, Jeff, can be seen to the left.

MOLD! movie poster

A filmmaker friend of mine, Neil Meschino, has asked me to paint a poster for his awesome movie, MOLD!, a well done indie horror/comedy film. Here's my initial layout and preliminary work on the canvas.

I lay down a layer of color just to get rid of the white of the gessoed canvas. Then I used carbon paper to transfer my linework, which I drew on the computer using Photoshop. I printed it all out on 15+ pages of 8.5"x11" and taped them together to make the full sized rough to transfer to my 24"x36" canvas. I then went over those lines with a ball point pen to finalize my layout for the painting. I only did this process because of the elaborate composition and likenesses needed of all the performers of the movie shown on the painting. I'll be posting more of my painting process as I work through it.

This is my initial rough fully drawn in Adobe Photoshop.

This is my first pass at laying down color for my underpainting.

Here's my second pass of underpainting to be used as a base color for my line work transfer.

Here's my printed layout of the drawing done in Photoshop. I taped all the pages together to make the full size of the canvas. Beneath this layout is a layer of carbon paper that will transfer my lines to the canvas as I retrace the lines of my rough.

The carbon paper didn't work as well as I hoped, so I went in with a ball point pen to fully realize my sketch on the canvas. This step is important because it's the compositional basis for the poster. I don't own a good camera to take pictures of the large size of the painting, so sorry for the flash ;)

I'll be posting more steps of my painting process until the piece is done. It has been awhile since I've painted so I'm excited to finish this!

Zenescope Entertainment's Grimm Fairy Tales #58

I was hired to do pencils for Zenescope Entertainment's Grimm Fairy Tales comic book series, which would be my first published work to be found at your local comic book store. Please go out and buy yourself a copy, please ;P

The issue is Grimm Fairy Tales #58. I only did the pencils, it was written and colored by other very talented people. I've never read any of the other books of the series so it was a little tough to get into the universe and accurately depict the characters that many others have already defined. It was a great experience and I hope to have more published work to showcase.

The x-es you see is where black is supposed to be. So imagine that the areas marked with an "x" is me "spotting blacks". I do that so I wouldn't need to spend time filling the area with pencil work. Other pages will have this, so please keep that in mind.

Here are some Chip pin-ups I did. Both are digitally drawn and colored in Adobe Photoshop. It's been fun working completely on the computer with my illustrations, it challenges me to try new stuff I'd otherwise avoid. Although it's becoming so ingrained in me to draw with the tablet and keyboard that when I want to erase while I'm drawing traditionally that I reach out to press control-z instead of reaching for my eraser. Weird, I know.

Here's a Zombie illustration I did for a friend. I drew the original with pencil, ink, pen&brush, and Prismacolor markers. I finished it off in Photoshop to add all that digital color goodness, num num num!

Jazmin Mock Up

Here's an example of my recent attempts at drawing digitally using Photoshop. I worked entirely on the computer for this piece, using my Wacom tablet as a digital "brush" to "ink" the image. I also wanted to personally try my hand at lettering on the computer too, using Adobe Illustrator. I've never done this before and I'm happy with the results. I had no plans for this piece, just that I wanted to showcase my character Jazmin, who fights zombies in the far future. It looks like a page from a story, but I just wanted to invoke the mood I'd like to use in a possible full Jazmin story. My next step is to color this using Photoshop...

DC Universe Online

Hello people!

I just wanted to tell you that I've had some work with the DC Universe Online video game and that it was an awesome good time that I hope gamers the world over will enjoy. I did storyboards and production art (fixing inks and colors, doing backgrounds, and overall being a badass) for 25 of the "cinematics" they have in the game. They're really similar to motion comics, being that we didn't take an existing comic book and made it move, instead we built them from the ground up to be animated. You'll have to play the game to fully enjoy the context of them within the story but you can find a few on Youtube. Here's the website for the awesome company I worked with, Motherland Inc., showcasing some examples of the videos we did, watch here! I also helped out on a music video back in 2008 for the same company, watch that here.

Growing Up with Video Games colored

Here's a colored version of a strip I did in college. I wanted to mess around in Photoshop and get my coloring skills going. Here's the inked version: Growing Up With Video Games inks

Here's a black and white version of the colors. I like to look at my colors in grayscale to make sure that their is good contrast. That way, an image can "pop" more, and they'll be a better sense of depth to the image.

Here's a self-portrait I did using a Wacom tablet and Adobe Photoshop. I've been sharpening my digital skills and feel confident in possibly doing more work on the computer. I've always stood by the traditional tools but have come to appreciate the digital ones as well.
