Inks over Hilary Barta's Pencils

Here's a pencil sketch by Hilary Barta, cartoonist extraordinaire, of a surly looking zombie. I'm friends with him on Facebook, and he put up this sketch to see who would like to ink it. So I tried out my computer inking with Manga Studio EX4 to see how it'd be to ink over someone's pencils. It was fun to interpret the artwork.

Here are three illustrations I did for a client, based on a short story he hopes to expand upon. It deals with anthropomorphic NYC subway rats.

Man Cop #1 cover!

Here is the cover to the first issue of Man Cop! A self-published work that I helped my friend Chris Bramante, a self-proclaimed mythmaker (and writer of Man Cop), put together in hopes of spreading the legend that is Man Cop. I had slowly worked through this first issue (all 20 pages of it), in over a year, painstakingly pencilling, inking & lettering it with all my passionate artistic fervor. "I Killed Jessica Again" Book Cover Illustration

Here's another cover I drew and colored for Stranghouse Books, for an anthology of short stories.

This is based on a story titled 'I Killed Jessica Again' by Kevin Strange, and is about a dead girlfriend who is resurrected by cult zombies in an alternate dimension. That alone made me want to draw this, lol! I drew this digitally in Manga Studio EX 4 and colored in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

This is the tonal sketch I put together for the client to approve. I was told to change the position of her left arm, which I think helps out. It makes for a stronger silhouette of Jessica rising from the reanimating fluid.

"Strange Sex: A Strange Anthology"

A cover I illustrated for a book of short prose stories for an independent publishing company called StrangeHouse books. You can find their Facebook page HERE! This book will be coming out within a few months and you'll be able to order from them online, that is if you like strange stories about strange sex. This illustration was  traditional penciled and inked on 11x17 bristol board and colored in Adobe Photoshop.

Below is my rough tonal sketch that was approved to base the final illustration on.

Zenescope Entertainment Presents Spike TV's "1000 Ways to Die" Graphic Novel

These pages were a part of a collection of short stories based on the t.v. show "1000 Ways to Die". The title for the story I worked on was called "Pumpkin Die" and features rednecks and a pumpkin cannon. This is the first foray into the graphic novel medium for this t.v. show's concept. I drew these pages entirely in Adobe Photoshop, before I found Manga Studio, but both software programs are amazing for drawing on the computer.
